Answer: Since Phosphorus penta chloride  breaks down into phosphorus trichloride and chlorine gas on heating which shows that out of five P-Cl bonds three are equitorial and tightly  bonded and two are axial and weak  bonds.

PCl5  ------------> PCl3 +Cl2
